You have to like the small stuff to appreciate this post...
Doug met me at the Kottage, like several of you have done, with a couple of targets in mind...
The first target was Hellbenders... recently researched in this nearby creek, we got up early and waded out in the 50 degree water.

Unfortunately we struck out on those. Onto the next target.
64, overcast with intermittent heavy rain proved to be the right formula.
Roadcruised several efts...(7)

Flipped 29 Eastern Garters...

Came across 28 Northern Ringnecks

and some eggs...

Love the variable Northern Redbellied Snake (36).

Millside's son Adam with a redbelly.

Found 4 small Eastern Milk Snakes... 3 juveniles and a baby...

Baby under a muddy rock... probably here before the rains came...

And we also found 18 Smooth Green Snakes... It was a pretty good day.
8 year old Josh finds the first one...with a redbelly.

5 year old Adam found a couple on his own as well...

Soon we were flipping multiples... including this male/female pair under a rock with a ringneck and a redbelly.

Several juveniles were found...including stubby here...

Then they started rebelling...
